About the Book Club The Books Get Involved Policy Questions

Why Non-Fiction?

Engage, Educate, Empower...

Welcome to the Women’s Bioethics Project Book Club. Our club is designed to help you understand the direct and profound affect emerging biotechnologies will have on your life. Our goal is to provide the tools you’ll need to come to your own conclusions about what you want laws and regulations to look like. Over the past year, we’ve featured popular works of fiction from best selling authors including Jodi Picoult, Margaret Atwood, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Michael Crichton to stimulate discussion and reflection.

As is the nature of fiction, these authors have focused on the perils rather than the promise of biotechnology nature in order to create compelling story lines and adequate narrative tension.  Based on feedback from our readers, we are launching a new program featuring a selection of non-fiction works on biotechnology to provide a more balanced perspective.

To kick off our non-fiction program, we are featuring four works of non-fiction that we feel provide an engaging, straight forward, and ethically compelling way for readers to consider the policy implications of decisions to ban or limit access to technological advances.
