How To Think “Bio-ethically”

Most people aren’t quite sure what “bioethics” means. Basically, it is the exploration of moral and ethical questions surrounding life, health, science, medicine, and the environment. It’s a process for figuring out “the right thing to do” about emerging technologies. But you don't have to be a bioethicist to participate in this discussion.

Here’s a way to get started…

Questions to ask yourself:

Who benefits?

Who bears the burden?

Who decides?

And how does it affect vulnerable populations? (such as minorities, disabled people, immigrants, and the economically disadvantaged.)

The bottom line: it is about the kind of society we want to create. In this way, we can build the kind of world we all want to live in.
